Seamanship For Kayakers: Getting Started (DVD)

This is the 1st in a series of seamanship videos to be hosted by John Dowd. It introduces all the basic boating skills needed for sea touring, as well as the subject matter of later, more detailed videos in the series. This includes gear, safety checks, charts, planning, safety around other vessels, transport, basic strokes, navigational aids, rules of the waterways, rolling, self rescue, rescuing others, clothing, low impact camping, piloting, compass use, landing through surf, waves on beaches. Future videos in the series will focus separately, and in more depth upon navigation, weather, oceanography and managing ashore. Because the DVD is chapterized, it is easier to get to the skill you want to review than it would be in a video cassette version. Plus, Pause to review, is so much smoother in DVD.
